The Wanted man who plays the lead role in the upcoming movie “Trap Soldiers” has told us all about what to expect. This is the first time that Odessa Feaster, the star of the upcoming crime thriller film “Trap Soldiers” has spoken to us. Turf Warz, written by author C.J. Hudson, was published in 2014. The novel is about a turf war that has just erupted in Cleveland, Ohio, as the title implies. The novel’s protagonist, Roscoe Crawford, is a teenage criminal who works for Cleveland’s current kingpin, Sam Thornton. Crawford, of however, is dissatisfied with his current position and aspires to be the kingpin, so when the chance to take down Thornton arises, he and his brutal thugs seize it. They are unaware, however, that another gang, headed by Richard “Rock” Harris, is preparing to do the same thing, resulting in a turf war on Cleveland’s streets.
C.J. Hudson is a native of Cleveland’s east side, where he grew up surrounded by crime, violence, and narcotics. He attended Kent State University for one year, determined to climb beyond such a manner of life. In his childhood, he was an enthusiastic reader, and when his future wife handed him Carl Weber’s Married Men, he was introduced to urban fiction for the first time. But it wasn’t until he lost his work as a machine operator that he decided to give writing a go. After writing his debut book, Skeletons, he went on to write Chedda Boyz, which landed him a publication contract. C.J. has written eleven additional books after his first work was published.
Turf Warz has been a huge hit with fans, and in 2021, AM Film Studios and Boss Magnet Media will convert the book into a film called Trap Soldiers, which will be published this year. Joseph Mason will play Roscoe Crawford, Akron Watson will play Richard “Rock” Harris, Kerry McCormick will play Captain Rachel Turner, and Odessa Feaster will play Cleveland Mayor Paula Wilson.
In anticipation of the film’s premiere, Fiction Horizon offers a unique, exclusive interview with Odessa Feaster, whose character must go deep into Cleveland’s crime-ridden streets in order to achieve street justice when her only son is murdered by drug-related violence.
Odessa Feaster, born Odessa Williams, is an American actress best known for her performances in films such as Now You See Me, Breakout Kings, Moms Night Out, and Snitch, among others. Rev. Moses and Fannie Williams have six children, Odessa being the youngest. She was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Her passion for acting began at an early age, as she said in her own words that she wanted to be an actor when she was only eight years old. After Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in August of 2005, Odessa Feaster decided to give it a try, despite the fact that it took some time. And so her journey started; she now has over 40 acting credits to her name, and she sat down with our reporter to discuss her life, career, and, of course, her latest film, Trap Soldiers. This is what we discussed.
Below is the whole interview with Odessa Feaster.
1. Tell me about Trap Soldiers, your latest film.
The film Trap Soldier is based on the novel Turf Wars by Author C. J. Hudson. I portray Mayor Paula Wilson of Cleveland, Ohio, whose top goal is to exact a mother’s revenge on the corrupt city that forever altered her life. Is Mayor Wilson seeking retribution for her son?
2. How did you come to be a part of the project?
I auditioned for the part, as did many other actors in the business. I felt it was the ideal part for me after reading the character description, so I gave it my best. On the same day, I submitted an audition video for the part, and one of the producers called me right away.
3. Can you explain how Trap Soldiers fits into your professional life?
There are many parallels, but I’ll just mention a few. First and first, I’d have to mention the aspects of uncertainty that existed prior to getting a job, as opposed to my dedication to booking that role. My professional life is a mix of uncertainty and dedication. For example, the uneasiness I feel before booking a job is often the spark that drives me to accomplish my goals.
4. What are your thoughts on the film?
I believe the film is fantastic! I believe that the audience will connect with each character and recognize them as individuals they know. This film depicts actual life. The cast is amazing!
5. Paula, can you tell us a little bit about your character? We’d want to learn more.
Mayor Paula is just like any other career-driven woman. Her expectations are very high for herself, her kid, and anybody she comes into contact with. She’s all about business, and she won’t spend her time on anything that won’t help her achieve her goals.
6. Do you believe Trap Soldiers will be followed by a sequel?
I’m not sure at this point…but I’m hoping so. I’d want to see how Cleveland, Ohio, comes together after all that has occurred in the town. And, like any other city in America today, finding answers to daily issues is critical. Perhaps a genuine sequel would be akin to providing crucial answers to some of those issues.
7. Would you be willing to return for a sequel?
Absolutely! This story’s first chapter is just the top of the iceberg. Mayor Paula has a lot more she can do for the city of Cleveland, Ohio, and its loyal citizens.
8. What was the set’s mood like? Was the production without hiccups, or did you run into any issues? Was the present epidemic a factor in the production?
On set, there was a great vibe! Everyone had a fantastic off-screen connection, which made our on-screen connection much more credible. This was, without a doubt, one of the easiest projects I’ve ever worked on. Everyone understood what they were supposed to do and did it well!
The set was top-notch and extremely professional, thanks to the efforts of director Arthur Muhammad, producers, and writers from Boss Magnet Media.
Yes, after the epidemic, everything has altered. On set, there is a procedure in place, and everyone must follow the Covid-19 safety standards. We all try to maintain a sense of social distance, and we always wear PPE.
In the past, the actors and crew benefited from the flexibility of being in the same room while developing a bond and deep connection. However, the present degree of isolation is required to guarantee safety during this epidemic, therefore the current procedures must be followed.
9. Do you believe the epidemic will have an impact on Trap Soldiers’ box office performance, for better or for worse? (There will presumably be less competition, but less people will attend to the movies)? Or do you believe the film will be released on a streaming service? (Can you tell me which one?)
I honestly don’t believe the epidemic will have any impact on Trap Soldier’s performance. Moreover, I’m not sure which way Boss Magnet Media and AM Film Studios will go (e.g., releasing it on streaming, or in the theaters). I am certain, though, that any platform will be a success.
10. Do you believe it will be beneficial for the movie if it goes on streaming?
As I have said, I believe the film will be a hit regardless of the platform on which it is published. I like streaming because it allows everyone to see the movie in the privacy of their own homes. However, I’ve lately observed that several production firms use both channels, releasing films in cinemas as well as on streaming networks. This is fantastic since it achieves the highest degree of saturation, guaranteeing that all points of entry are covered.
11. Can you tell us anything about your future plans? Sacrifice, I see you’re working on a new TV program. Can you tell us more about your character and the show? Is there anything else coming up in the near future?
My goal is to publish a book that I’ve been working on for quite some time. My own life experiences are the basis for the book. It shows my effort to stay focused on day-to-day life, my acting profession, and finding a balance between the two. I’m also attempting to work in front of the camera. Currently, I’m working on a few new projects.
Sacrifice, a new television series, is a must-see. I’m honored to announce that I have a recurring part on the show, and my character, Misty Cross, is devoted to her family. I really urge everyone to see the Sacrifice series… it’s a must-see!
In the not-too-distant future, I envision myself giving back to people who want to pursue acting as a career. Having a solid support system will be critical in learning and managing the business’s ups and downs. I am a strong believer in giving back in order to continue to get success.
